She knew it was her own fault for not protesting when they had 'the talk'. Why didn't she just tell him the truth, that she didn't want to break up? That she loved him and wanted to be a couple? Oh no, no that was far too difficult, then she would show off her weak side, so instead she had just agreed with every friggin' word coming out of his mouth.

Yes, they had grown, and yes they had grown a little a part too. They were to much a like to become a perfect match, they could never have a future together. She sighed as she watched a replay of their conversation in her head. Now this was simply too annoying for her to think about.

Stupid – stupid, stubborn girl. Why did she have to be so enormously thick headed? Why couldn't she admit that sometimes even she was weak, and sometimes even she had feelings, and they did get hurt too.

But no, Mai was too proud and too stubborn to admit these things, even to herself. Why had she let him slip away? She knew she could never have a love like Zuko again. She'd loved him even when no one else did for crying out loud! She loved him when everyone looked upon him as the banished prince, an outcast, when he was wanted by the whole Fire Nation she still loved him, and when she was Fire Lord she loved him too.

She always loved Zuko, and now he was gone. Now he wasn't hers any longer. It hurt, it really did. It was painful to admit it, but it was true.

Mai had returned from her stay at Kyoshi Island four days ago and were met by the news that the Fire Lord and the Water Tribe Ambassador had started to spend a lot of time together. Rumours from the palace told her that they were getting involved in a relationship.

Out of jealousy she followed them one day to spy a little, for research purpose only of course. She needed to confirm whether they were a couple or not.

It started with them having a small argument over a young kid who stole some food from a grocery store. Katara defended the boy but Zuko wanted to turn him in to the General and let him handle the matter.

They kept arguing for quite some time until Zuko finally gave up and agreed on giving he boy to the orphanage where he could get a place to stay, roof over his head and food everyday.

They then went to a restaurant and had dinner with members of the royal council.

She kept following them all day, when she never got any bulletproof evidence of their alleged relationship Mai wanted to call it the day, but as the sun went down Zuko and Katara went to a small hill.

At first they just sat there enjoying the view, but after awhile he put his arm around her and that was when she knew.

Zuko had forgotten about her. He finally moved on and found his true love.

It really hurt, and she even cried a little when she got home.

Maybe one day this giant pain inside of her would disappear, maybe she too would find a true lover of her own. She smiled a little to herself.

If they really believed they were meant for each other she wouldn't do anything, but if there were only a small hint or sign of a fragile relationship she would set her claws on Zuko and never let go.
Zutara week day 2!!
Ok I know this story is a little late, but I got way to drunk last night and couldn't post it, completely blacked out on the bed (heehe)..

Well here it is, better late than never.
